Why Sea Sanctuary?

We know there is a desperate need for our service because we have carried out extensive market research which clearly shows Sea Sanctuary is a much needed resource.

We have been encouraged by the many letters of support from people who wish to use Sea Sanctuary as well as those wishing to refer someone. We have had letters/emails from as far afield as Germany and the support continues to grow.

Research strongly supports this type of environment where individuals are removed from clinical/sterile settings which often, sadly, have the adverse effect and can often significantly increase recovery time.

Other sea-based projects enjoy considerable success within their field (e.g. Jubilee Sailing Trust, Trinity Sailing) where working at sea and providing a radically different approach is rewarded by service users wishing to return year after year. Sea Sanctuary will offer this experience all year round and this will create continuity of care for those who most need it.

Sea Sanctuary will offer a varied range of treatments and be a permanent base for excellence to flourish in the treatment of individuals to recover, learn and develop new skills. This project will use both existing methods of treatment and alternative methods in accordance with the wishes of the very people who use it but in an enhanced environment.
