This is a truly unique opportunity to receive respite care on the water. Imagine spending up to 7 days at sea enjoying the beauty of Cornwall's seascape, on a classic yacht. The vessel will be adapted to provide the most comfortable and relaxing environment possible.

Cornwall is severely limited in terms of respite care as currently, only two are available in the county and these are land based, oversubscribed and cannot compete with our distinctive approach to providing mental health care. Land based operations have varied retention rates with service users (in some cases) only returning because of lack of alternatives.

Our service will provide a special and memorable experience and people will return to us because they want to. Service users will have the choice of participating in structured activities or can simply relax and enjoy their respite care. For some, this service may represent their first experience of life on board a vessel and will no doubt be both exciting and exhilarating.

We see this service as a crucial element in the holistic care of service users as it will inevitably provide a break from the 'norm'. Furthermore, current service users who use respite care benefit enormously from the chance to have time for themselves.

The programme will be suitable for children, young people and adults (and their carers) who will be actively encouraged to use the facilities as currently they are underrepresented in terms of support offered throughout the county.

Sea Sanctuary would operate this service around UK waters and may look to extend this service geographically for longer periods of respite care.
