Referral Process
Accessing Sea Sanctuary
Sea Sanctuary is available to anyone (subject to an assessment) wishing to use our unique service. We actively address the issue of rural isolation by offering transport to those individuals unable to access our service otherwise. Sea Sanctuary can collect service users from local train stations or may consider a more extensive pick-up service (where appropriate).
Referral Form
To refer yourself or someone else to Sea Sanctuary, please complete the Referral Form (downloadable below) and return it to our office. We actively encourage self-referrals. We also welcome referrals from health professionals, schools, housing providers, statutory and voluntary sector organisations.
Next Steps
Once we receive a referral, we will normally invite you to our office in Penryn for assessment. Our assessment usually lasts about an hour and covers basic information such as:
- Contact details
- Presenting problem
- Medication
- Medical history
- Psychiatric history
- Any risks identified (either to yourself or others)
- Current support (e.g. family, health care professionals)
The assessment is an opportunity for you to find out more about Sea Sanctuary and the programme you wish to attend and for us to clarify that we can support your needs whilst on placement with us. If we can support you fully, we will offer you a placement within 2-3 weeks of assessment and from there, discuss availability and sail dates.
In some cases, we may feel from your referral form or assessment that Sea Sanctuary cannot support your needs at the moment. If this is the case, we will contact you to explain why and encourage you to approach us again in the future.
