Education & Training services

Sea Sanctuary will provide education and training in the following areas:

  • Mental health awareness (general)
  • Managing deliberate self-harm
  • Anxiety management
  • Living with depression
  • Understanding bereavement

We will also seek RYA (Royal Yachting Association) approval to run practical courses including:

  • Coastal Skipper and Yacht Master
  • Royal Yachting Association (RYA) - 'Competent Crew'
  • Royal Yachting Association (RYA) - 'Day Skipper'
  • and other courses where appropriate.

We strongly believe that completing a practical course and gaining a Certificate can boost self-confidence and so assist the socially isolated and disadvantaged to move forward in their life.

Whilst other charities already harness the special characteristics of the marine environment to enhance the services they provide, we believe we are unique in that we have at our core, staff that has experience of both providing mental health services and working in a marine setting.

The unrivalled clinical and marine experience at the heart of our charity means that we are uniquely placed to develop and provide services that will benefit from a synergy between the modern evidence based care we will provide and the timeless therapeutic potential of our chosen setting.

Synergy: the interaction of elements that when combined produce a total effect that is greater than the sum of the individual contributions.
