Counselling & Therapy services

Therapy & Counselling are a process - we believe in providing the best platform for that process to occur. The environment is the key ingredient for a successful outcome and we will be situated in the heart of the Cornwall, surrounded by some of the most spectacular coastline in the Country. Sea Sanctuary will utilise the latest research and methods to ensure our programmes are delivered professionally and are 'needs led'.

¨Mental ill health costs over £77 billion in England alone and causes suffering to people of all ages¨. (Mental Health Foundation, 2006)

Sea Sanctuary's therapeutic and counselling structure is needs led based on the aim to provide those treatments that are identified as necessary within the county and have an evidence base for their use

Cornwall has a significant gap in the provision of talking therapies as identified in the 'We Need to Talk' report (2006) [pdf].

Too often children, young people and adults are signposted out of county for specialist treatments (e.g. deliberate self injury) as Cornwall does not have the support mechanism in place to provide the necessary care required.

Aside from the emotional disruption caused to the individual, there are significant cost implications to the referring or fee paying party, as in some cases residential support can cost upwards of £4,051 per week with additional costs in the region of, on average £1200 per visit.

Vulnerable people are cut off from their support network such as family and friends for extended periods of time resulting in for some, feelings of despair and hopelessness.

Furthermore, when individuals return into the county following extensive treatment (which can range from 1 week to several years), they are unable to access continuing support as Cornwall lacks the facilities required.

We will offer the most efficient and cost effective treatments for those disorders/conditions with a high prevalence in Cornwall.

We will aim to support individuals in the following areas:

  • Deliberate self injury
  • Stress management
  • Anxiety management
  • Low self-esteem
  • Depression

We will use some of the following models of therapy/support:

  • CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy)
  • NLP (neuro linguistic programming)
  • Art Therapy
  • Maintaining self-esteem
  • Group Therapy
